Customized double-pass RO plus EDI solution for reliable health supplement production water
· Project Overview |
Water quality is a critical factor in health supplement manufacturing. Stable high-purity water is required for ingredient dissolution, process cleaning, equipment rinsing, formulation support, and hygienic production control. If dissolved salts, organics, particles, residual chlorine, or microorganisms are not properly removed, they may affect product consistency, shorten equipment life, and increase quality control risk.
To support its production requirements, a health supplement manufacturer in China selected Zhongnuo Water Treatment to design and manufacture a 4 m3/h ultrapure water system. The customized solution was developed to convert municipal tap water into stable ultrapure process water, helping the client improve water quality consistency, strengthen production hygiene control, and support reliable long-term manufacturing operations.

Water supply for health supplement production |
· Project Challenges |
As production volume and quality requirements increased, the client needed a more dependable process water solution. The key project challenges included the following:
◎ Process water quality had to meet stricter production standards
Health supplement production requires cleaner and more consistent water than ordinary utility use. The client needed a treatment process that could effectively reduce dissolved salts, residual chlorine, fine particles, and microbiological risk while supporting stable downstream use.
◎ Municipal feed water quality could fluctuate
Although municipal tap water is relatively stable, seasonal and regional variations can still affect turbidity, chlorine content, and dissolved solids. The system therefore needed robust pretreatment and polishing capacity to keep final water quality consistent.
◎ The production line required continuous and reliable water supply
Any interruption in ultrapure water supply could affect cleaning cycles, batch preparation, and overall production scheduling. The client required a stable 4 m3/h output with dependable operation and reduced risk of downtime.
◎ Low-maintenance operation and hygienic control were essential
The manufacturer wanted an automated system that would simplify operation while also supporting hygienic process control. This made intelligent monitoring, multi-stage purification, and final UV disinfection especially important.

· System Introduction |
This 4 m3/h ultrapure water system was designed specifically for health supplement production applications. It integrates pretreatment, double-pass reverse osmosis, EDI polishing, final sterilization, storage, and distribution into one coordinated process line for stable high-purity water supply.
Pretreatment for stable RO feed water
The process begins with the Raw Water Tank and Raw Water Pump, followed by a Multi-media Filter to reduce suspended solids and an Activated Carbon Filter to remove residual chlorine and organic matter. A Security Filter then captures finer particles before the first RO stage, helping protect membranes and improve operating stability.
Double-pass RO for deeper desalination
The First-stage High Pressure Pump and First-stage RO System remove the majority of dissolved salts and impurities. Water is then collected in the First-stage Pure Water Tank and sent through the Second-stage High Pressure Pump and Second-stage RO System for further purification, creating a much cleaner water base before final polishing.
EDI polishing and final hygienic assurance
After the second RO stage, the EDI Booster Pump feeds water into the EDI System, where ionic contaminants are further reduced to achieve ultrapure water quality. UV Sterilization provides an additional hygienic barrier before the water enters the Ultrapure Water Tank and is delivered through the Water Supply System to production water points.
Built for process consistency and product quality
The complete system was configured to support continuous operation, reliable water purity, and cleaner production management. It is suitable for manufacturers that require consistent high-purity water for sensitive process applications in regulated production environments.
·Project Results |
After installation and commissioning, the ultrapure water system successfully met the client’s process water requirements and provided a more reliable basis for daily production operations.
· Stable ultrapure water output of 4 m3/h for production use.

· Improved consistency of process water quality for health supplement manufacturing.
· Reduced residual chlorine, dissolved salts, particles, and downstream contamination risk.
· More reliable support for cleaning, formulation, and general process water demand.
· Lower risk of membrane fouling and system instability through staged purification.
