Zhongnuo supplied a 5T/H brackish groundwater RO plant for a workers’ camp in the UAE. The camp relied on local borehole water for washing, cleaning and other daily uses.
High TDS and hardness caused a salty taste and serious scaling in pipelines, water heaters and sanitary facilities. Transporting freshwater to the remote camp also created high operating costs.
We designed a fully automatic BWRO system with pretreatment and UV sterilization to provide stable on-site water purification.
| Item | Project Details |
|---|---|
| Location | United Arab Emirates |
| Application | Workers’ camp domestic water supply |
| Raw water | Brackish borehole groundwater |
| Capacity | 5 m³/h (5000 L/h) |
| Treatment process | Pretreatment + BWRO + UV |
| Control | Automatic PLC operation |
The customer required a reliable 5000L/H brackish water desalination system for a UAE workers’ camp with simple operation and low maintenance.
Brackish Groundwater → Raw Water Tank → Feed Pump → Multimedia Filter → Activated Carbon Filter → Softener/Antiscalant Dosing → Cartridge Filter → High-Pressure Pump → BWRO System → UV Sterilizer → Product Water Tank
A water softener or antiscalant dosing system is selected according to the feed-water hardness, silica content and designed recovery rate.

| Treatment Stage | Function |
|---|---|
| Multimedia filter | Removes sediment and suspended solids |
| Activated carbon filter | Reduces odor and organic matter |
| Softener/antiscalant | Controls hardness and membrane scaling |
| Cartridge filter | Removes fine particles before RO |
| BWRO system | Reduces TDS, hardness and dissolved salts |
| UV sterilizer | Provides additional microbial control |
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Product-water capacity | 5 m³/h |
| Feed water | Brackish groundwater |
| RO configuration | Single-pass BWRO |
| Typical salt rejection | ≥97% under design conditions |
| Control mode | Automatic PLC |
| Post-treatment | UV sterilization |
| Installation | Skid-mounted |
| Water application | Camp washing, cleaning and domestic supply |
Actual performance depends on feed-water TDS, temperature, ionic composition and operating conditions.
After commissioning, the 5T/H BWRO plant in the UAE provided a stable supply of low-salinity treated water for the workers’ camp.
The system helped the customer:
If the product water is intended for drinking, it must pass the applicable local chemical and microbiological tests.
Remote workers’ camps often lack access to municipal water networks. An on-site brackish groundwater treatment system for desert camps can convert local borehole water into a more reliable domestic water source.
Compared with continuous freshwater delivery, on-site BWRO offers:
•More reliable daily water availability
•Lower long-term transportation costs
•Reduced pipeline scaling
•Automatic water production
•Flexible configuration for desert environments
Yes. Outdoor protection, ventilation, insulation and cooling systems can be added according to the site temperature and dust conditions.
The system can include suitable disinfection and post-treatment. Final drinking-water compliance must be confirmed by local laboratory testing.
Yes. It supports automatic water production, flushing, tank-level control and fault protection. Routine inspection is still required.
No. Routine maintenance mainly includes checking operating data, replacing filter cartridges and cleaning the RO membranes when required.
Yes, but membrane type, operating pressure and recovery rate must be recalculated according to the complete water analysis.
