Zhongnuo supplied a 1000LPH borehole water treatment system for a residential community in Ghana. The community depended on local borehole water for drinking, cooking and daily household use.
However, the untreated groundwater contained visible sediment, high turbidity, odor and dissolved salts. It also caused scaling in household pipelines and appliances. A compact and automatic treatment system was therefore required to provide a stable supply of clean domestic water.
| Item | Project Details |
|---|---|
| Location | Ghana, Africa |
| Application | Residential domestic water supply |
| Raw water | Local borehole water |
| System capacity | 1000 L/h (1 m³/h) |
| Raw-water TDS | 550–680 mg/L |
| Main technology | Pretreatment + Reverse Osmosis |
| Operation mode | Fully automatic |
The community faced several borehole water problems:
⇒Muddy water containing visible sediment
⇒Unpleasant odor
⇒High TDS and mineral content
⇒Scaling in pipes and household appliances
⇒Unstable water quality for daily use
The customer needed a reliable 1m³/h borehole water RO plant for community water supply with simple operation and low maintenance requirements.
Based on the borehole water conditions, Zhongnuo supplied a fully automatic RO system with multi-stage pretreatment.
Borehole Water → Raw Water Tank → Feed Pump → Multimedia Filter → Activated Carbon Filter → Water Softener/Antiscalant Dosing → Cartridge Filter → RO System → Pure Water Tank
The multimedia filter removes sediment and reduces turbidity. Activated carbon improves odor and removes organic impurities, while the softening or dosing system protects the RO membranes. Reverse osmosis then reduces dissolved salts and hardness.

| Treatment Stage | Main Function |
|---|---|
| Multimedia filter | Removes sediment and suspended solids |
| Activated carbon filter | Reduces odor and organic matter |
| Softener/antiscalant dosing | Controls hardness and membrane scaling |
| Cartridge filter | Removes fine particles before RO |
| RO system | Reduces TDS, salts and dissolved impurities |
| Pure water tank | Stores treated water for community use |
Following commissioning, the 1000 liters per hour borehole water treatment system in Ghana operated steadily and provided continuous purified water for the residential community.
| Parameter | Raw Water | Treated Water |
|---|---|---|
| TDS | 550–680 mg/L | Below 80 mg/L |
| Turbidity | High | Significantly reduced |
| Visible sediment | Present | No visible sediment |
| Odor | Noticeable | No noticeable odor |
| Appearance | Muddy | Clear |
The system improved water quality, reduced scaling and provided a more reliable water source for drinking and household use. Final drinking-water compliance should always be confirmed through local chemical and microbiological testing.

Yes. It supports automatic operation, membrane flushing and tank-level control. Routine maintenance and consumable replacement are still required.
Yes. Multimedia filtration removes sediment and suspended solids before the water enters the RO system.
The system can produce water suitable for domestic use. UV sterilization or another disinfection system is recommended, and the final water should be tested against local drinking-water requirements.
Yes. A dedicated iron and manganese removal filter can be included when required by the raw-water analysis.
