High Groundwater Hardness
Calcium and magnesium created scaling risks for RO membranes and production equipment.
A hygienic purified-water solution combining hardness removal, double-pass reverse osmosis, continuous EDI polishing, UV treatment and SS316L storage and circulation.
A pharmaceutical manufacturer in Lahore required a reliable purified-water system to replace conventional ion-exchange equipment.
The available groundwater contained high hardness and dissolved salts. Frequent chemical regeneration increased operating work, while conductivity could not remain stable during continuous production.
Zhongnuo supplied a 1m³/h double-pass RO EDI system with automatic softening, UV treatment and a hygienic SS316L storage and distribution system.
| Item | Project Information |
|---|---|
| Location | Lahore, Pakistan |
| Industry | Pharmaceutical and biotechnology |
| Raw water | High-hardness groundwater |
| Capacity | 1m³/h (1,000 L/h) |
| Main process | Softening + double-pass RO + EDI |
| Post-treatment | UV + final filtration |
| Storage/distribution | SS316L tank and circulation loop |
| Control | Automatic PLC system |
| Water-quality target | Customized to application and validation needs |
Final system performance depends on groundwater quality, operating conditions and approved product-water specifications.
Real equipment photographs showing the integrated RO+EDI skid, hygienic stainless-steel pipework and key treatment components used in the purified-water system.
Calcium and magnesium created scaling risks for RO membranes and production equipment.
Groundwater required multi-stage desalination before EDI polishing.
The existing ion-exchange system required frequent acid and alkali handling.
Water quality fluctuated during continuous pharmaceutical production.
Storage and distribution required hygienic materials and continuous circulation.
The customer required system testing, documentation and operator guidance.
Multimedia and activated-carbon filters reduce suspended matter, organic impurities and oxidants. Automatic softening lowers hardness before reverse osmosis.
Double-pass RO removes most dissolved salts and produces suitable low-conductivity feedwater for the EDI module. EDI then removes residual ions continuously without routine acid or alkali regeneration.
UV treatment and final filtration are installed before the SS316L tank. Continuous circulation through the hygienic distribution loop helps reduce stagnation and contamination risk.

The final configuration is confirmed using the groundwater analysis, intended pharmaceutical application, target water-quality specification and validation requirements.
Final conductivity, microbial limits, sanitization procedures, sampling plan and validation documents must be defined according to the intended application and applicable regulations. Acceptance should be based on approved specifications, commissioning results and laboratory testing.
Provide the project data below so our engineers can confirm pretreatment, RO projection, EDI sizing, sanitary materials and distribution design.
